Economic prosperity is no longer secured through being a large country or empire nor by using military force to gain access to markets.
There is no longer a link between the size of a country and its economic success. That a small country the size of Wales can prosper is evident.
Those that argue otherwise are either unable to accept the evidence for this, or must believe there is something peculiar about the people of Wales that means they’re incapable of making a success of things. Wales, a country of 3 million people, is not too small to survive as an independent country. It is a fact that there are over 100 other independent countries in the world that are smaller than Wales.
In fact, of the top 10 wealthiest countries in terms of GDP per capita, 9 have a population of less than 5 million, and 7 of those have a smaller population than Wales.
Too Poor?
OK - what makes you think Wales is too poor?
being able to run a country is as simple as being able to balance the books. If you think we can't afford it because of how poor Wales is now, when the majority of our decisions are stil made in Westminister, despite devolution, then surely thats a reason to say we can't afford NOT to run our own affairs?
The numbers currently include 'our share' of many large scale Westminister expenses that an Indy Wales either simply would'nt want - such as Nuclear Missiles (£205bn) or doesnt actually see, for example, HS2 not a single inch or track in Wales, but the project is costing £56bn and we are being charged for it.
This is before we even start on the postive numbers - Wales is far richer than anyone is ever allowed to consider. It was recently revealed that Wales as a nation is the 5th largest exporter of Electricity - not to mention our limitless, clean, renewable natural resource that economists are calling 'the oil of the 21st Century' - Water, which we currently give away for free.
It's hardly fair to say we cannot afford to run our own affairs while we have one hand tied behind our backs!
Undefendable?

Better off in a Union
Wales alone can't lay claim to being the only part of the British Isles that doesn't benefit from being a part of the UK.
From the tip of Scotland, through the North of England all the way to Lands End - no where outisde of London and the South-East benefits from being a part of this un-equal union.
In one aspect - you're not wrong - Wales does belong in a Union, but rather one that treats it as an Equal.
Such as say, the United Nations.
